Some Special Applications of
Acupuncture
Acupuncture for pain management
-- According to recent statistics, more than one-third of Americans
suffer from some kind of chronic pain -- pain which can prevent
the body from healing and from effectively fighting disease and
which may thereby diminish the overall quality of life. At the
same time, medication often prescribed for pain may be extremely
costly and involve severe side effects. Yet in fact pain can be
effectively treated and managed: acupuncture, recognized by the
World Health Organization for its ability to treat chronic illness
and manage pain, is very effective in treating musculo-skeletal
and neurologic pain -- such as arthritis, neuralgia, sciatica,
back pain, stiff neck, tendonitis, headache and migraine -- as
well as gastrointestinal and gynecological pain. Traditional forms
of Asian medicine, including acupuncture and herbology, have constituted
the primary modalities of health care in China for the last 5000
years because by correcting underlying bioenergetic imbalances
and helping to restore the body's natural balance and strengthening
the immune system, they effectively target the roots of illness
-- and do so with virtually no side effects.
Natural, effective and drug free treatments for women's
and men’s problems – Chinese medicine (which
includes acupuncture, moxibustion and Chinese herbs) has been
used for centuries to cope with many sensitive issues in women’s
health. By restoring energetic and metabolic balance (homeostasis),
nourishing the blood and smoothing the flow of energy, Traditional
Chinese Medicine (TCM) helps women to regulate their menstrual
cycle and eliminate pre-menstrual symptoms; by restoring essential
endocrine functions and regulating the secretion of hormones,
improving the blood flow (circulation), and nourishing the uterus,
TCM can help women who have difficulty in conceiving or in maintaining
a pregnancy; by regulating body metabolism and strengthening overall
health – especially by balancing the Yin and Yang, and also
regulating hormone secretions, we help women to get through menopause
as smoothly as possible.
When you come to see us, we can help with your PMS, dysmenorrhea,
amenorrhea, polymenorrhea, oligomenorrhea, or metromenorrhea.
If you wish to see us for infertility, we can help regulate the
menstrual cycle and hormone levels, improve the function of the
ovaries, enhance your body’s response to IVF and ART procedures,
alleviate stress, promote relaxation, and advise in creating a
balanced environment, including diet, in which life may flourish
anew.
Together with their partners, we also treat men in coping
with fertility issues -- through promoting the function
of the male reproductive system, regulating the hormone levels,
increasing the number, quality and mobility of the sperm, increasing
libido, reversing premature ejaculation, nocturnal emissions and
erectile dysfunctions.
For pregnant women, we treat morning sickness,
vomiting and nausea, and support the maintenance of pregnancy,
prevent miscarriage.
For menopause, and peri-menopausal syndrome,
we can very effectively treat the hot flashes, insomnia, irritability,
mood swings and weakness, and foster less extreme swings from
heavy to blocked menstrual bleeding.

Acupuncture
for musicians -- When we sit down to enjoy music or go
to a concert hall to spend quality time, many of us have some
sense of how much work the musicians have done to create this
phenomenon of musical composition and performance, to develop
such sophisticated technical skills, and to provide us with such
great treasures for the enrichment of our lives. Having years
of experience myself as a musician and teacher, I know that in
the course of preparation some three-fourths of instrumentalists
come to suffer from different types and degrees of practice-related
ailments. Many musicians do not at first notice the development,
gradually -- from years of practice and from the sheer difficulties
of required performance techniques or grueling rehearsals -- of
tense postures, tendonitis, severe tightening of individual muscles
or of whole muscle networks in the shoulders, arms or wrists,
and down into the lower back, which can lead eventually to pain,
whether mild or excruciating, that will in turn contribute to
increasing stage fright and other syndromes of physical and psychological
discomfort.
Therefore, we need to work on both the physical and psychological
aspects: on the purely physical side, these include the muscles,
tendons, and joints. We work to relax the tightened muscles and
muscle networks and to alleviate the pain, with the goal of giving
the muscles a chance to repair and to absorb healthy nourishment.
Inasmuch as acupuncture affects the brain and the central and
peripheral nervous systems -- stimulating the secretion of endorphins
and encephalins and of norepinephrine and acetylcholine -- it
can by these means also help to promote a relaxed, positive and
highly alert psychological state; such a state in turn fosters
more rapid bodily repair, reduction of pain and a sense of well-being
in daily life, thereby helping a musician once again to function
at his/her best under the stress of public performance.
